
JOHN A. SCOTT
HISTORIC PRESERVATION SPECIALIST
John A. Scott is a Project Manager/Exhibit Specialist with the Historic Preservation Projects division of the Intermountain Region Support Office of the National Park Service. He specializes in the architectural investigation and documentation of historic structures both through hands-on investigations and historic research. He is the author of more than 40 Historic Structure Reports, analytical science papers, and paint and mortar analysis reports.
John holds a Master of Science degree in Historic Preservation from Columbia University and has worked as an Architectural Conservator and a Mason and Carpenter, also for the National Park Service. His skills include masonry repairs, cleaning methods and reconstruction of stone and brick structures and the analytical testing and matching of historic and contemporary mortars. He also has extensive experience with laboratory procedures for the analysis of paint-finishes, chronological-sequencing of finishes, and matching of historic paint colors. He was a recipient of the NPS-2003 Historic Structures Award for his work at the Wright Brothers National Memorial Visitors Center, Kill Devil Hills, North Carolina, in conjunction with the Southeast Region’s Architectural Preservation Division.
