GEORGE TETTAH
TRADITIONAL BUILDER
George Tetteh studied and trained in Ghana and abroad to receive a degree in Natural Building Techniques. His studies included cob, bamboo, stucco, lime and clay plasters, stone construction and more. He has completed a number of buildings using natural materials, including a stone office building, a largely clay church and a tourist hostel.
Mr. Tetteh is also involved in training others in these types of building techniques. One of his goals is to show that conventional building methods are not always best when natural materials are available to everyone and can be used to build beautiful and inexpensive buildings. He plans to work in impoverished villages incorporating his method of building with the overall process of improving basic needs such as drainage and sewage while retaining the traditional village layout. He has received support of the Queen Mother of the area, who is interested in the development potential of Mr. Tetteh’s methods.
