Materials Needed to Help Rebuild Historic Neighborhoods

Boulder, Colorado, January 6, 2006
– Heritage Conservation Network issued a call for building material donations to enable the many volunteers attending a series of hands-on building conservation workshops in hurricane-ravaged sections of Bay St. Louis, Mississippi and New Orleans to accomplish more work. The workshops began January 2, 2006 and will continue weekly through March. In each workshop participants will get involved first hand in preserving and repairing houses in historic districts, working with a technical expert and alongside local residents.

Building materials and supplies such as drywall, interior trim, kitchen cabinets, paint, tools and more are needed to facilitate the volunteers’ efforts. Companies able to donate materials or money with which to purchase supplies are encouraged to contact HCN at 303 444 0128.

HCN is working in association with the Neighborhood Story Project, the Green Project, the Preservation Resource Center of New Orleans, and Architecture for Humanity to coordinate this relief effort. They hope to bring in a crew of 10 – 12 volunteers each week to help rebuild people’s homes and businesses – and their lives.

Heritage Conservation Network is a non-profit organization dedicated to the preservation of architectural heritage around the world. Through a network of technical experts, volunteers, and community members, HCN aims to increase the effectiveness of preservation efforts at the local level.
